Default DP and Armor?

I never really gave it much thought before, but does death penalty affect armor? If so, has it always? In the past it affected damage, I believe, but that was changed right?

I was under the impression that it only affected health and energy, but now I am not so sure...

The background to this is that I was fooling around in the S. Shiverpeaks and the Seige Ice Golems kept hitting me for 244 dmg!! from deep freeze (at 16 in water the max should be 90). It seemed to only happen when I was at -60% dp. And at -60% dp that is a one hit kill, basically.

No. No effect on armor. Health and Energy. Thats it. As when you mouse over your dp icon it tells you you have been weakened by death but it just effects you.

Like nanood said it only effects health and energy, the skills you use (healing, hexes, damage all of them) will be as effective if you have -60% DP or 10% Morale, that is of course if you have the energy or to pay for the cost.

Btw about the deep freeze doing 90 at 16 ( might be right cant confirm now)
You gotta keep in mind that maybe they used enchants that makes water hexes hit for more and more important, we human players can only get to lvl 20 but enemies can go further so the golem might have been lvl 24 so thats not 16 water mag anymore but more ,which equals more damage.

I didn't really think it affected armor, but I thought I better double check.

I am not sure what is making it do such a huge amount of damage, and I don't buy it is that they have more attb points invested. If that were the case they would need 46.8 points in Water Magic (Deep Freeze starts at 10 dmg @ 0 points and increases 5 dmg for every point invested), so it has to be something else that did it...

Level difference increases damage too. You didn't happen to be poking around there with a very low level character?

No, I was playing on my lvl 20 mesmer who was wearing a full enchanters set (60al) at the time. I was trying to fill out a few clouded areas south of Copperhammer Mine, and was running around with all the henchies except the ele. I am pretty sure that the Ice Golems were hitting at 90 when I was at full health...

...hmmm, I guess I'll have to go and see if I can duplicate it and find out what was going on. If I come up with anything interesting I'll post it.

I figured it out and it is kind of stupid. When I got to 60%dp I was getting creamed by all the degen from Melandru's arrows, crippling anguish, and conjure phantasm, so I took of my mask with superior rune to get a little more health and changed to a +60 hp staff. So, I started noticing everyonce in a while I would get hit for 244 dmg (I am sure that I did not notice some that only hit for 90), but I didn't really think about that I wasn't wearing any armor on my head because I don't usually take my mask off.

So the reason for the big damage - a lvl 16 att Deep Freeze against lvl 0 armor...that is just how much it does. Pretty stupid huh?
